New Mapping System is Making it Easier to Find Your Way at White Rock Lake

(DALLAS) -- A new mapping system is making it easier to get around White Rock Lake Park. Now, park visitors can use a mobile device or laptop to access a digital map using QR codes found on 911 markers around the lake and on the trails.

Dallas Park and Recreation and For the Love of the Lake this month launched the wayfinding project Find Yourself at White Rock Lake. The interactive map identifies and shows the location of important points of interest, trails, parking lots, bathrooms and drinking fountains. Additional features will help you find your exact location, track distances and get links for facilities, points of interest and businesses at the lake.

"As a pilot program, we are hopeful this will be well received and continue to evolve and improve. This new mapping system is being considered for other trails and parks in the City of Dallas," said Maria Hasbany, a member of the Dallas Park and Recreation Board representing east Dallas and White Rock Lake communities. Seeing a need for an interactive lake map, Hasbany worked with For the Love of the Lake to provide funding for this project.

"For the Love of the Lake has been a longtime supporter of the lake both financially and with trash pick-up. With their assistance and that of the park and recreation staff and an area design firm, the map includes everything from park entrances to pavilion locations," added Hasbany.
