Countryside partners with Essex Search and Rescue to host exercise day on Tye Green construction site

Sunday 21st November saw Countryside welcome the locally based Essex Search and Rescue team at its newly launched site, The Paddocks in Tye Green. The site played host to an invaluable missing person training day, in a live construction setting - an environment which has not been easily accessible to the charity in the past.

Established in 2002, Essex Search & Rescue provides a pool of trained volunteers ready to assist the Police searching for missing vulnerable persons. Having access to live sites, provides challenging areas to train on with a variety of situations to practise.

With Countryside's strong commitment to support local causes, they were delighted to help by offering the site for the day. In addition, Countryside gifted a drone to the charity to assist with finding future missing vulnerable people.

The day consisted of an introduction to the construction site and a health and safety talk. This was followed by two exercises for Essex Search and Rescue to practice including a Continuing Professional Development refresher course and an exercise run across the whole site, with the training scenario being a 75-year-old living with dementia - one of the more common types of missing people they are asked to find.

The Paddocks provides the perfect setting for the training day, offering access to open ground works, ponds, half constructed properties, and storage compounds - a challenging environment to navigate. This allowed for a demanding training session, essential in equipping the team for a similar scenario, should it be bought to life in a live search. Countryside's Health & Safety team ensured the conditions were prepared to ensure the exercises could be carried out safely.

Michelle Dearsley, Group Health and Safety Director, Countryside said:"We are delighted to partner with Essex Search and Rescue to assist with their essential missing person training days - something we hope to facilitate on an annual basis moving forward. We recognise the valuable work carried out by Essex Search & Rescue and how important it is to support vital local services. The event on Sunday marked our continuous commitment to Health and Safety and assisting with the local community services."Colin Booth, Chair of Essex Search and Rescue said:"On behalf of everyone at Essex Search and Rescue I would like to sincerely thank Countryside Properties for the truly remarkable gift of a drone. This will make an incredible difference to the work that we undertake, enabling swift deployment to search, rescue or recover missing vulnerable people. This will have the ability of being a complete game changer to us and thereby to those individuals who we aim to assist."
