Tropical storm Nicholas has disrupted hundreds of flights in and out of Houston, Texas, after the storm delivered high winds and rain to the southeast Texas coast this morning.

Nearly 200 flights have been cancelled at Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport, with another 50 delayed as of 11am EST, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware.

Houston's Hobby Airport has recorded 161 cancellations and eight delays.

US carrier Southwest Airlines has seen the largest share of cancellations at 211, with most of its flight disruptions occurring at Hobby Airport.

Additionally, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said unrelated stormy weather could disrupt flights in Chicago and Detroit today.
