Curbside Giveaway Days are back!

Participate in Vaughan's community waste reduction program on May 28 and May 29

The City of Vaughan's Curbside Giveaway Days are back again by popular demand! You are encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle by placing gently used items at the curb of your property for others to come and take. This is an excellent opportunity to declutter your home or find a new hidden gem to take for yourself!

The full schedule for Curbside Giveaway Days is as follows:

  • Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29
  • Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26
  • Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24
  • Saturday, Aug. 27 and Sunday, Aug. 28
  • Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25
  • Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23

To participate, materials can be placed curbside and marked "free" on each morning identified as a Curbside Giveaway Day, beginning at 7 a.m. Any items that are not claimed must be brought in by 5 p.m. on Sunday. Items left at the curb after that time could result in a by-law violation.

Here are a few steps you can take to participate successfully:

  • Download and print a "FREE" curbside giveaway poster(PDF) for your items.
  • Only take items that are marked "free."
  • Share pictures of your items using #VaughanCurbGiveaway on social media.
  • Keep items you do not want to give away close to your home or inside to avoid confusion.
  • Keep sidewalks and fire hydrants clear.
  • Respect private property and do not walk on people's lawns or gardens.
  • Obey traffic laws at all times - please do not block traffic or driveways.

Not sure what you should be placing at the curb? Here are some examples:

  • Books, CDs and DVDs
  • Furniture and small appliances
  • Sports equipment and toys
  • Yard and gardening equipment (e.g. lawnmowers, shovels and rakes)
  • Kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans
  • Construction material (e.g. nails, paint and wood) and tools
  • Artwork and mirrors
  • Electronics
  • Clothing

What should not be placed at the curb? Items that could be infested with bed bugs, such as mattresses, upholstered furniture or bedding linens. Baby walkers, car seats and other items listed on the Consumer Product Safety Bureauare not safe to give away.
