FAST hiring fair can be quick path to new career

(Fayetteville, N.C.) - New applicants are welcome to attend the Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) hiring fair tomorrow at Kiwanis Recreation Center, 352 Devers Street. The event hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Candidates can apply on site and do on-the-spot interviews with FAST leaders. FAST staff members will be available to answer questions about job duties and responsibilities. This opportunity speeds up the hiring process because qualified applicants can complete an online job application, department orientation and interview all in one day.

FAST staff are aware of the nationwide shortage of bus drivers. Despite challenges, they aim to properly train recruits and deliver high-quality services to the community. FAST has a partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College to support the school's training program for the Class B Commercial Driver's License for transporting passengers.

Fayetteville City Council members are committed to a responsive City government supporting a diverse and viable economy. They want to invest in today and tomorrow. FAST offers a $1,000 sign on bonus to candidates who are hired for the CDL Driver - Transit position. Bus Cleaner and Bus Mechanic positions are also available.

Public transit is an essential City service and can be an affordable travel option as gas prices increase and people feel effects of inflation. Over the past year, FAST staff recorded a 9% increase in ridership. FAST offers bus services seven days per week to meet demands. FASTtrac! is available to eligible passengers who have challenges riding a fixed bus route.

Transit Director Randy Hume and the FAST team have also set a goal for the FAST fleet to become fully electric by 2040. Recruiting qualified, new employees will help sustain the local economy and support accessible and expanded services as the landscape transforms.

The City's Employer of Choice initiative prioritizes ways to offer benefits equal or above market competition. To see starting salaries and to learn about open transit positions, shift hours and minimum qualifications visit fayettevillenc.gov/jobs.
