COMMONWEALTH HEADS OF GOVERNMENT MEETING (CHOGM)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato' Sri Saifuddin Abdullah will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will be held in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda from 21 to 25 June 2022.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is normally held once every two (2) years. The 26thCHOGM, which was initially scheduled on 26-27 June 2020, was postponed twice due to the spread of COVID-19.

The theme for this year's CHOGM is 'Delivering A Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming'. The theme is fitting at a time when the global community is confronted with challenges resulting from the COVID -19 pandemic that has led to significant disparities in the distribution of wealth, access to affordable healthcare and social economic development . The Commonwealth Heads of Government will discuss and exchange views on current as well as emerging challenges that would affect the Commonwealth family with the view to achieving sustainable and inclusive development.

Heads of Government will also review current global political and economic developments, and deliberate on issues related to governance and rule of law; sustainablility; post-COVID-19 recovery; youth; and, technology and innovation. A CHOGM 2022 Communiqué and the three (3) other outcome documents - Kigali Declaration on Child Care and Protection Reform; Commonwealth Living Lands Charter: A Commonwealth Call to Action on Living Lands (CALL); and, Declaration on Sustainable Urbanisation are expected to be adopted at the end of the Summit.

YB Dato' Sri Saifuddin Abdullah is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the 26thCHOGM to discuss issues of mutual concern. The Minister will also be meeting with Keluarga Malaysia residing in Rwanda.
