"Assistance at the Pump" Events Scheduled for Disabled Georgians

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black and State Representative Henry "Wayne" Howard continue to roll out their bipartisan collaboration, Assistance at the Pump, to aid disabled drivers who may face hurdles at the pump.

The pair teamed up to demonstrate the program by unveiling new gas pump decals. Over the next 18 months, all gasoline pumps in Georgia will get new Department of Agriculture inspection stickers indicating that anyone needing assistance pumping gas can call the store for help as part of the state's move to help people with disabilities.

"This is a critical time for us to have bipartisan collaboration to find solutions to the challenges that arise in our state," Commissioner Black said. "This is a true victory for our disabled community and all Georgians. I thank the leadership of Representative Howard for bringing this concern to our attention."

Commissioner Black and Representative Howard joined forces to revise the gas pump inspection stickers to include contact information for immediate help particularly for customers with disabilities. The decals are being replaced by utilizing the state's fuel inspectors as they perform their regulatory inspections at retail gas pumps. The decals now include a blank space for the gas station to fill in the phone number to reach an attendant and wording to instruct these drivers to call for assistance.

"This legislation will help Georgians with disabilities in more ways than we can measure," said Representative Howard.

Commissioner Black and Representative Howard demonstrated how to use the new stickers September 22nd at the Brookhaven RaceTrac- 3630 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, GA.
