UNESCO considers two new Biosphere Reserve proposals for Southern Africa

This week, the Man and Biosphere (MAB) International Coordinating Council (ICC) holds its annual meeting at UNESCO in Paris.

The meeting is particularly exciting for the southern Africa region, since two new nominations are being examined. If these are approved, the 9 Member States supported by the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA) will have 18 Biosphere Reserves participating in the world network, and the region will have 7 out of 9 Member States with at least one Biosphere reserve.

The decision will be announced on Wednesday 15 June. Below are brief introductions to both sites
