Klobuchar, Smith Introduce Legislation to Rename Local Post Offices in Honor of Fallen Minnesota Guardsmen

Bill follows second anniversary of the tragic Blackhawk helicopter crash that took the lives of Minnesotans Charles P. Nord, James Rogers, Jr., and Kort M. Plantenberg

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to rename the Avon Post Office in honor of Army National Guard Warrant Officer Candidate Kort M. Plantenberg; the Perham Post Office after Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer Charles P. Nord; and the Winsted Post Office in honor of Chief Warrant Officer James A. Rogers Jr. These three Minnesota National Guardsmen were tragically killed on December 5, 2019 when their UH-60L Blackhawk helicopter experienced engine failure during their flight.

"Sergeant Plantenberg, Chief Warrant Officer Nord, and Chief Warrant Officer Rogers made the ultimate sacrifice for us and our democracy," said Klobuchar. "By renaming the Avon, Perham, and Winsted Post Offices in their honor, we will pay tribute to their legacies and help Minnesotans keep their memories alive for generations to come."

"Charles Nord, James Rogers, and Kort Plantenberg were all beloved members of their communities here in our state," said Smith. "With this legislation, we hope to honor their legacy and pay tribute to their service. Our hearts go out to their family and friends on this tragic anniversary."

Companion legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives by Representatives Tom Emmer (R-MN) and Michelle Fischbach (R-MN).
