VB: Yellow Jackets fall to Mavericks

SPEARFISH, S.D. - Black Hills State University Volleyball has lost a five-set match against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks on Friday night. The Mavericks (11-7, 7-3 RMAC) won the first set, (26-24), before the Yellow Jackets (7-11, 5-5) came back to win set two (26-24) and set three (26-24). In the decisive fifth set, CMU won, 15-7.

The Jackets achieved 28 kills in the first two sets with Madison Hoopman racking up 17 kills and with 12 kills. Leading the Yellow Jackets in digs was with 22 and attaining 19 digs.

The Jackets had a total of nine aces with three being served by . The first four sets had a total of 28 scoring ties and a total of 12 lead changes emphasizing the matchup's back-and-forth intensity. After a rally in the fourth by the Jackets, they were unable to finalize a victory and the Mavericks took set four by a score of 25-20.
Set five proved to be the toughest for the Yellow Jackets, falling to the Mavericks with a score of 15-7 after not being able to turn the tables after coming within 3 points of CMU (7-4). This finalizing the 3-2 victory for CMU and adding a five set loss to the record book for the Jackets.

Next Up

The Yellow Jackets will head to Western Colorado to take on the Mountaineers on their home turf. The match against the Mountaineers will be at 6 p.m. on October 19.
