NUHS Clubs Celebrate Medical Trailblazers During Black History Month

Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Dr. Fred Rubel, the first known black chiropractor, graduated from National College of Chiropractic (now National University of Health Sciences) in 1913. He is among the medical trailblazers whose stories have been featured online and on campus by the Student American Black Chiropractic Association (SABCA) and the Black Naturopathic Medical Student Association (BNMSA) during Black History Month in February.

To inform the NUHS community about the many often barrier-breaking contributions made by black Americans in various medical fields, BNMSA created a Black Medical History display in the Learning Resource Center. Both clubs posted profiles of prominent black physicians on TV monitors around the Lombard campus.

In addition, NUHS students, staff and faculty are invited to a free lunch and discussion of upcoming club events on February 28. The Student Council is planning activities the week of February 25, leading up to Cultural Diversity Week in mid-March.
