Safety a priority: Groupe Charles André (GCA) joins forces with Dometic to make driving safer

Lyon, France - 23/11/2021 Seeing cyclists and pedestrians is not easy for lorry drivers in a city environment because of blind spots. Government authorities have set themselves the goal of preventing such accidents. The European Parliament made it compulsory as of 1 January 2021 to affix stickers on lorries to warn road users of the danger of blind spots.

It has also made it compulsory to install an "anti-blind spot" system by 2024. This system, which is equipped with cameras, emits a sound that alerts drivers when cyclists and pedestrians move into the vehicle's blind spot.

Concerned about safety, GCA decided to plan ahead for this obligation.

In light of this, the Drôme-based company, a leader in transport and logistics solutions for industry, has joined forces with Dometic Group, creator of market-leading leisure and safety solutions, to carry out a six-month test of the blind spot assistance system. For GCA, this partnership is about prevention, with the aim of achieving "zero accidents", which is one of the commitments in the group's QHSE policy.

The Dometic BVS 71000 turn assistant system with Dometic CAM1000 camera is a complete solution that complies with EU requirements. An external alarm can also be added to the system, to meet the requirements of DVS legislation in the UK. Thanks to its sophisticated technology, the Dometic CAM1000 can distinguish between moving and static objects, such as lamp posts, meaning the driver is warned only in the event of a real danger and is not distracted by false alarms.

GCA and Dometic are carrying out tests to assess how easy it is to install and maintain the Dometic BVS 71000 (installation currently estimated at 2.5 hours). The aim is also to get feedback from drivers using this system on carrier-type vehicles for urban deliveries in the Lyon area.

Founded in 1932 and currently managed by Ms Delphine André, the founder's granddaughter, Groupe Charles André (GCA) has developed and diversified its historical activities as a road haulier of dangerous goods. Today, GCA has solutions covering the entire logistics chain, in fields such as aerospace, food and beverages, automotive, construction and minerals, chemicals, defence, energy, the environment, and rail and urban logistics. In 2020, the group recorded a turnover of 1.2 billion euros. With locations in 15 countries, GCA has more than 9,200 employees.
