Fischer Statement Marking 20th Anniversary of 9/11

LINCOLN, NEB. - U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement in honor of the 20^th anniversary of September 11.

'It has been 20 years since that fateful morning on September 11, 2001, shook our nation to the core.

'Today, we remember the 2,977 souls lost on 9/11 and pause to pray for the thousands of families who lost a loved one on that day. This includes the families of the Nebraskans we lost: Julie Geis, Monte Hord, Jennifer Dorsey-Howley, Jerrold Paskins, and Navy Captain Larry Getzfred.

'We also pause to honor the incredible heroism of the many first responders and ordinary citizens who rushed into the danger to save lives. We will never forget their stories and sacrifices. And we recognize the critical role that the men and women of STRATCOM played when our nation was under attack.

'While this somber anniversary marks one of the darkest chapters in American history, it is also a reminder that the character of our citizens is what makes this country the greatest in the world.

'In the face of immense loss and adversity, the American people courageously rallied together to supportone another. We would do well to remember that spirit of community, patriotism, and compassion as our nation continues to confront the many challenges before us now.

'May God bless those who are mourning the loss of a loved one on 9/11, and may God bless the United States of America.'
