Putintseva battles back to give Kazakhstan the lead

Argentina got off on the wrong foot in their Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Play-off against Kazakhstan in Cordoba. The home side's No. 1 Nadia Podoroska seemed to be in control before falling to a 2-6 6-4 6-0 loss against Yulia Putintseva.

The momentum was with Podoroska in the opening set, who was strong on her own serve. She only gave away one break point, while she engineered five in her favour and converted three of them.

But the match turned on its head in the second set. Podoroska hit three double faults and had a first serve percentage of just 37% in the second set. Despite that, the second set was decided by just one break in favour of Putintseva.

The third set was dominated by the Kazakh from start to finish. Putintseva won every game to emphatically win the first point for her country.

The tie continues with Argentine No. 2 Lourdes Carle against Kazakh No. 1 Elena Rybakina.
