President Ashraf Ghani met with women in Kandahar today and addressed their wants and recommendations.
They shared their challenges in various areas including lack of healthcare services, poor quality medicines, education, employment opportunities to women in government, finding international markets for women handcrafts, creating safe work environment, and safety and security of women.
President Ghani said women, particularly in Kandahar, have a clear message for the world, saying that they want change and their basic, fundamental and sustainable rights to be protected while they are fulfilling their obligations.
The president ordered the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to help Afghanistan commercial attaches abroad to discuss establishment of a special unit for women's handcrafts to address their challenges in this area.
Emphasizing on establishment of Association of Women Products, the president highlighted that 5% preference will be considered in national procurement processes for women's products comparing to men's.
He said that measures are in place to improve healthcare services, underlining that 100 beds in Aino Mena Hospital will be dedicated to women.
