This Week’s Update

The Senate passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (S. 2938), a package of gun control legislation. The Senate also passed the Keep Kids Fed Act (S. 2089) and legislation to suspend duties and other restrictions on the importation of infant formula (S. 4261). The Senate confirmed Mary Boyle to be a Member of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Vinay Singh to be Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and several judicial nominees.

  • Senate - The Senate passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (S. 2938), a package of gun control legislation. The Senate also passed the Keep Kids Fed Act (S. 2089) and legislation to suspend duties and other restrictions on the importation of infant formula (S. 4261).   • House - Following their passage in the Senate, the House passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (S. 2938) and the Keep Kids Fed Act (S. 2089), sending them to President Biden for his signature. The House also passed the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act (H.R. 7666), the Advanced Research Project Agency-Health (ARPA-H) Act (H.R. 5585), the LGBTQ Data Inclusion Act (H.R. 4176, the STRONG Veterans Act (H.R. 6411), the Enhancing Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Through Campus Planning Act (H.R. 5407), the Campus Prevention and Recovery Services for Students Act (H.R. 6493), and the Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity Training Act (H.R. 7777). The House failed to pass the Active Shooter Alert Act (H.R. 6538). A vote on the Honoring Our PACT Act (H.R. 3967), as amended by the Senate, was postponed.

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate - The Senate will be in recess and meet in pro forma session. The Senate is scheduled to reconvene on July 11.
  • House - The House will hold a committee work week and meet in pro forma session. The House is scheduled to reconvene on July 12.
