Volunteer Spotlight – Amber Harper

First Mid is honored to recognize Amber Harper, Wealth Management Project Lead, as our Volunteer Spotlight for May 2024. Amber is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.

What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism?
I tend to lean in the direction of organizations that help support individuals going through tough experiences. I have gone through some trying times myself and was fortunate to have a good support system along the way through my friends and family. However, not everyone has that, and I volunteer to help lighten the burden of those who need it most.

What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering?
There is something about volunteering and helping others that brings happiness to your inner soul. Even in times when things are falling apart, I remind myself there is someone going through something even harder.

What are ways that you think others can get involved?
Search social media for local events supporting those in need. Attend the events and ask other volunteers how you can help support them. Reach out to organizations in your area and ask where they need help. If you aren't sure where to find a list of organizations, start with your local chamber of commerce or city directory. Look for an organization that supports something you have a personal connection with. Collect school supplies for local students, make meals for those unable to do it themselves, or participate in fundraisers and benefits for others. There are many methods and ways to volunteer. Some activities can even be done from the comfort of your own home.
