Using Innovation to Drive Hunger Relief in Ghana

As part of the Kosmos Hunger Relief Program in Ghana, local employees teamed up with the talented entrepreneurs from the Kosmos Innovation Center to take a two-fold approach to alleviating hunger in their community.

The first part of the approach included donations of approximately $50,000 worth of food items to 400 underserved families, as well as three correctional facilities - some of society's most vulnerable people.

The second part of the approach aims to provide lasting solutions to food insecurity, as well as job training for inmates at the James Camp Prison in Accra. Entrepreneurs from the Kosmos Innovation Center will facilitate an agriculture project to help inmates learn to grow and cultivate vegetables, mushrooms, and snails.

'We are giving the inmates of the correctional institutions training in agriculture, so that they will have something sustainable to live on when they get out,' said Kosmos country manager Joe Mensah. 'This will make them beneficial to society and to themselves.'
