Scheierman a finalist for top Nebraska athlete

Jackrabbit freshman Baylor Scheierman is among 12 finalists for the Omaha World-Herald's Nebraska High School Athlete of the Year. The award will be announced Sunday, June 30.

Scheierman graduated from Aurora High School (Aurora, Nebraska) as a two-time Class B All-State, All-Area and All-Conference selection. He averaged 22 points and nearly 10 rebounds to per game with a 6.5 assists per game mark, helping his team to the state tournament. On the gridiron, Scheierman set Nebraska state records for passing yards (3,923), touchdowns (59) and completions (255) as a senior as the Huskies claimed the Class C-1 State Championship.

He was the only player statewide to earn All-Nebraska First Team honors in football in basketball last year.

'It's an incredible honor to be recognized among such an impressive group of finalists,' Scheierman said. 'I'm proud of the work put in and the success we had as a group at Aurora High School. I know that none of it would be possible without my teammates, coaches and family. I'm going to miss being around that group every day, but am excited to be a Jackrabbit and chase new dreams with this family.'

South Dakota State's 2019-20 schedule will be released later this summer. Stay tuned to and follow @GoJacksMBB on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for updates and highlights throughout the year.
