Vienna,2022-03-02 - In 2021, 2.46 million hectolitres (hl) of wine were produced, according to Statistics Austria. This means a slight increase compared to the five-year production average (+3%), and to the wine production in 2020 (+3%). The harvest comprised 1.73 million hl of white wine (+5% to 2020) and 729 800 hl of red wine (-3% to 2020).
Lower Austria yielded significantly higher amounts of wine than in 2020 (+8%) whereas the wine production in Burgenland (-6%), Styria (-7%) and Vienna (-10%) decreased.
Concerning the wine products, the amount of "Qualitätswein/Prädikatswein" rose to 2.26 million hl (+2% to 2020) and the quantity of "Wein/Landwein" increased to 174 500 hl (+15% to 2020).
According to the wine stock survey 2021, a stock of 2.90 million hl (-1% to 2020) of wine products was noted. The volume of stored white wines (1.69 million hl) was 2% lower than in 2020 whereas the stock of red wines (1.21 million hl) slightly increased (+1%). The capacity of "Qualitätswein/Prädikatswein" decreased to 2.34 million hl (-1% to 2020) and the stock of "Wein/Landwein" decreased to 303 600 hl (-3% to 2020).
