DeFazio Announces Oregon Gained Thousands of Jobs in August

- Congressman Peter DeFazio (OR-04)today announced Oregon gained 7,900 jobs in August and 74,600 total jobs this year, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Congressman DeFazio helped support job creation and local businesses by passing the American Rescue Plan, which continues to support our economic recovery and help Oregon create more jobs.

"Yesterday's jobs report shows that the American Rescue Plan is working, and we are getting Oregonians back to work, but our job is far from over," said Rep. DeFazio. "Together, the Build Back Better bills will help create even more jobs and put more money back in the pockets of Oregon's hardworking families."

The American Rescue Plan was signed into law on March 11 and passed Congress with Rep. DeFazio's strong support. The bill provided economic rescue payments to millions of Americans, expanded the Child Tax Credit to put money back in the pockets of hard-working families, funding to safely reopen schools and support small business, and funding for vaccine deployment to protect Americans from COVID-19 and put us on a path toward finally ending the pandemic.

Under President Biden, the U.S. has gained 4,454,000 jobs nationwide in 2021. Click here to read more about Oregon's Employment Summary for August.

The Build Back Better bills include massive investments in the country's infrastructure to rebuild the nation's roads, bridges, and highways, deliver clean water to every community, and provide high-speed internet to every home, and it provides one of the biggest middle class tax cuts in history - paid for by making the wealthiest earners at the top finally pay their fair share.

Build Back Better will also lower the cost of childcare and caring for an elderly or disabled loved one, lower health care costs for millions of families, lower prescription drug costs, add dental and vision coverage to Medicare, extend tax cuts for families with kids, and confront the climate crisis by investing in resilience to prepare for severe weather events which will save taxpayer's money down the road.
