Skopje: the “Ecosystems” art exhibition to mark Contemporary Art Day

On the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Skopje and of the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, in association with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, an exhibition titled "Contemporary Ecosystems: a research study between art and ecology in North Macedonia" opened in the Macedonian capital. The exhibition was opened by the Italian Ambassador, Andrea Silvestri, at the attendance of the President of Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski to mark the 18th edition of Contemporary Art Day.

The exhibition displays works issuing from the art project by Antonio Massaruto and Roberto Gezzi and represents the peak of their research project carried out in the month of April 2022 on the slopes of the recently opened Šar Planina National Park and closely followed also by local students at the Art and Design Department of Tetova University. The aim of the project was to raise the public's awareness of the importance of North Macedonia's natural heritage and highlight the artistic value of its biodiversity.

The works will be on display until 26 October, after which some will be donated to the Museum (which already boasts a significant donation of Italian contemporary artworks) and others to the institutions involved in the project. Some of the installations will also be left where they were created (the Šar Mountains). The exhibition was organised with the sponsorship of the Ministries of Culture and of the Environment and Physical Planning of North Macedonia in partnership with the Šar Planina National Park and the Macedonian Ecological Society.
