President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the ceremony held at Anıtkabir on the 80th anniversary of the passing of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
The ceremony at Anıtkabir (Atatürk's Mausoleum) began as high-ranking state officials walked on the Lion Road. President Erdoğan and other high-ranking officials laid wreaths at Atatürk's mausoleum and observed a moment of silence at 09:05 a.m. at Anıtkabir.
After the national anthem was sung, President Erdoğan wrote the following in the Anıtkabir Special Book at Misak-ı Millî Tower:
'August Atatürk, we once again remember you, the chief commander of our War of Independence and the founder of our Republic, with mercy on the 80th anniversary of your passing.
Despite the attacks of internal and external malicious circles, we are determinedly proceeding on our way to render the Republic of Turkey, which has been entrusted to us by Your Excellency and our august martyrs, one of the strongest and most prosperous states in the world. The Istanbul Airport, which we inaugurated on the 95th anniversary of the foundation of our Republic, has left its mark on history as the latest source of pride of our nation. May you rest in peace.'
