NEW MULTI-PURPOSE COURT FOR POINTE MICHEL

The community of Pointe Michel will soon be able to boast of newly constructed multi-purpose court.

Construction of the court is progressing smoothly as a concrete pouring session took place on Tuesday, March 30 2021.

The project is being done at a total estimated cost of approximately one hundred and seventy thousand dollars ($170,000) including furnishings.

Member of Parliament for the Soufriere Constituency, Hon. Denise Charles said she is excited to see this project underway in Pointe Michel.

'It is a very exciting and symbolic day for me to witness the pouring of our multi-purpose court in Pointe Michel. Many people might not know, but this project began priori to Hurricane Maria. This was part of the first two projects that I undertook when I became Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency. One was to construct a multi-purpose court in Pointe Michel and the other in Soufriere,' Hon Charles noted.

The MP explained that the project started before the passage of Hurricane Maria but had to be stopped due to the devastation caused by the hurricane. She thanked the sponsors and partners for making the continuation of the project possible.

'It had to be halted after Maria because funds had to be re-diverted considering the devastation and the other priority needs of the village. But today with the help of our sponsors, considering the Government has so many projects to fund, I was able with their help and partnership to continue this project which is very important especially for the young people in the community,' Hon. Charles stated.

The project is also boosting the community's economy as seven residents are employed.

We have about seven people employed with one of our main contractors Mr. Toussaint, and I must say they are doing this as a community project. They have agreed to accept a reduced rate for doing this work because they recognize the importance of this project for our community,' the MP explained.

Minister Charles went on to say that she and the residents are happy to see this project come to fruition.

'I know that all our residents will be very happy to know that we are finally pouring the court. It has been a long awaited project and I am really happy and I thank God that this day has finally come that we are witnessing the pouring of the court and soon we can have the grand opening of the multi-purpose court in Pointe Michel,' the Member of Parliament added.

Swiss Ambassador to Dominica, His Excellency Urs Schnider, Representative of Argos Cement Edgar Martinez, Developer of Tranquility Beach Ian Edwards and Proprietor of CCL Chris Walter have all partnered with Hon. Charles for the construction of this multi-purpose court.
