RENO, NV - The holiday spirit will take-off at Reno-Tahoe International Airport this Saturday, December 8, as Santa Claus and a squadron of 20 airplanes loaded with gifts land at the airport to benefit the Children's Cabinet.
Operation Santa Claus is a special event created by the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority and Reno-Tahoe Aviation Group to lift the holiday spirits of families in need. Pilots and local businesses have bought gifts for the Children's Cabinet families and will greet the pilots and Santa Claus when they land at 11 a.m. The parade of single and twin engine planes and Santa's arrival on a Nevada Air Guard aircraft will be an impressive sight.
A hangar at Atlantic Aviation on the east side of the airport will also be decorated as a winter wonderland.* Media, Children's Cabinet families and volunteers will gather on the tarmac, along with University of Nevada Wolf Pack football players, Flips gymnasts and North Valleys High School JROTC students, to cheer and greet Santa and his elves as they arrive.
The airport's Paws 4 Passengers therapy dogs will also add warmth and hugs to the event, all while the McQueen High School Choir performs as the families are presented with gifts by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Numerous local businesses have helped support Operation Santa Claus through sponsorships and gift purchases.
This is not a public event.
