Military personnel of the International Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have been carrying out tasks since November 2021 to clear the area of explosive objects in the Nakai district of Khammuan province of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Russian sappers have cleared more than 12 hectares of territory, including a number of roads near settlements.

Currently, mine clearance continues on the territory of the village school, as well as on the site in the jungle, where it is planned to build social facilities for the local population in the future.

During the Vietnam war, the territory of Laos was subjected to massive bombing by the US Air Force, and numerous munitions still lie in the ground, threatening local residents. To a greater extent, these are cluster munitions that are dropped from the air and turn into independent anti-personnel mines.

In accordance with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation has sent a mine clearance detachment of the International Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, numbering 31 servicemen, to assist in the demining of the territory in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
