On Friday October 2, 2020 the Board of Neighborhood Council Valley Village began a 5 month project to paint utility boxes in Valley Village. Under the direction of our City Services Committee, and in partnership with the local non-profit Muralism and the office of Council Member Paul Krekorian, the first of 40 boxes were decorated using designs from Valley Village stakeholders.
The second phase began on February 21 with an Olympic Theme. In the above picture we want to thank Girl Scout Troop #3496 Sabrina Peebles, Amelia Goldberg, Rebecca Connery, Riley Bratcher and Muralism.org.
Muralism is an organization that works with community groups to bring color and life to utility boxes that are otherwise mostly visual clutter on the sides of our streets. They work with members of the community to develop designs and paint the boxes, then their staff manage the entire process, employing young people with special needs to help with designing and painting.
'I am so glad we were able to bring together our NCVV Board and Council District 2 to support this work to beautify Valley Village' said NCVV Board member and City Services Chair Suzanne Lewis. Over the weekend several boxes were completed, and more will be painted for the next several weeks.
