Platinum Jubilee Trails In RCT

2022 is the year of Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee and to commemorate this historic milestone a series of Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trails are being launched in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

With special permission granted, the Council will be encouraging residents and visitors to the County Borough to join the Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trails and learn all about the life and reign of Her Majesty The Queen.

All you will need to do to start your journeys is scan the QR code onto your mobile phones, and away you go!

Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trails are located in and around the Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare; Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd Museum and the neighbouring town centre; and Tonypandy town centre.

The Trails, which are available until June 12, are an experience where the public track down and find seven characters that have come to life from Buckingham Palace and are visiting your location on a day out. As you spot each of the seven characters around your location, you can scan unique QR codes to engage with the story and answer questions to choose how it progresses.

You will learn about a different decade in Her Majesty's 70-year reign from each character. Finally, once you have collected all seven stamps, participants will be rewarded with the conclusion to the adventure and will be able to take selfies with digital prize badges 'pinned' to themselves, which they can then share on social media.

A special extended Bank Holiday Weekend in June will provide an opportunity for communities and people in Rhondda Cynon Taf to join others throughout the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.

On February 6, 2022, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

There are plans to host street parties across the County Borough over the Bank Holiday Weekend, with Platinum Jubilee flags being flown at various locations, as well as the lighting of the Council's Platinum Jubilee Beacon at Rock Grounds, Aberdare. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's theatres and public attractions will also be illuminated for the duration of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
