National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework (NEED)

The National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework () was set up to provide a better understanding of energy use and energy efficiency in domestic and non-domestic buildings in Great Britain. The data framework matches gas and electricity consumption data, collected for sub-national energy consumption statistics, with information on energy efficiency measures installed in homes, from the Homes Energy Efficiency Database (HEED), Green Deal, the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and the Feed-in Tariff scheme. It also includes data about property attributes and household characteristics, obtained from a range of sources.

See also the Non-domestic National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework (ND-NEED).

August 2021: Survey on the future of Domestic NEED closed

This survey (published June 2021) sought user feedback to inform BEIS' development of Domestic NEED to better meet user requirements. It is now closed: thank you to those who responded.

We are reviewing responses and will provide an update in due course. The responses will also inform BEIS' decision on whether or not to pause the 2022 NEED publication to enable development work to take place.

The June 2011 publication is on the National Archives website.
