Assembly brings together thousands of gamers twice a year. The first event was organised in 1992.
'Our aim is to help Assembly grow, and at the same time strengthen our gaming business and the digital culture at large. We want to participate in creating Finnish success stories and help people understand that digital entertainment and gaming are part of many people's lives. Finland has good prospects of becoming one of the top countries in e-sports,' says Heli Partanen, Head of Telia Finland's Consumer Business.
Gaming and esports are growing fast worldwide and an increasing number of people play games. The best Finnish players today compete for million-euro prizes in international arenas.
'We want to enable unforeseen things in Finland together with Assembly and we will be able to support digital culture enthusiasts better than before, both in e-sports and the gaming industry. We want to be where people are and inspire both older and younger generations. In addition to offering opportunities for activities such as computer festivals, we also want to contribute to creating paths towards professionalism. This is an excellent opportunity to show Finnish players that we support them,' says Niklas Segercrantz, Business Manager at Telia Finland.
The parties have agreed not to disclose any financial details of the acquisition.
