UAE Travel Ban 2021: Which Countries Are Suspended From Entering the United Arab Emirates Now?

With changes to travel restrictions occurring frequently as the pandemic ebbs and flows around the world, keeping tabs on the latest flight suspensions and bans can get quite challenging.

While the UAE is not closed off entirely to international visitors, some countries have been suspended from entry primarily for pandemic safety reasons. What countries are on this list?

India

The United Arab Emirates has further extended the ban on travellers from India, now for the third time. Passenger flights from India have been suspended by the UAE until June 30, with Emirates suspendingall passenger flights from India until the given date.

However, UAE citizens, diplomatic missions, official delegations, and those holding golden residency can still travel from India to the UAE.

Vietnam

Vietnam is the latest addition to the list of UAE flight suspensions. The discovery of an alleged new variant of COVID-19 in Vietnam has prompted UAE officials to suspend flight operationsfrom the country.

All passengers coming from Vietnam on all flights as well as transit passengers coming from Vietnam will be suspended starting from 5 June. However, transit flights coming to the country and heading to Vietnam will still be allowed. The following is the list of exemptions.

  • UAE nationals and their first degree relatives arriving from Vietnam;
  • Members of diplomatic missions from both countries;
  • Holders of UAE Golden and Silver Visas;
  • Officials and those passengers exempted and/or granted permission to enter UAE by the appropriate authorities;
  • Passengers who have completed 28 days, after being fully vaccinated for COVID‑19 (Coronavirus SARS Cov‑2) with a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO)

Bangladesh

As per the UAE government's directive, all flights to and from Bangladesh are suspended indefinitely until further notice. Furthermore, passengers who have travelled through Bangladesh in the last 14 days will not be accepted to travel from any other point to the UAE. The ban extends to transit flights coming from Bangladesh. Transit flights to Bangladesh may continue.

UAE Nationals, holders of UAE Golden Visas and members of diplomatic missions who comply with updated COVID‑19 protocols will be exempt for travel.

South Africa

The suspension of flights originating from South Africa will remain in place until at least 30 June. The suspension has been in effect since January as part of the UAE's efforts to combat the coronavirus disease and its new variants.

Under the current ban, travellers who have been in or transited South Africa within 10 days of departure to Dubai will not be granted entry.

Pakistan

As per the UAE government's directive, all flights to and from Pakistan are suspended until 30 June. Furthermore, passengers who have travelled through Pakistan in the last 14 days will not be accepted to travel from any other point to the UAE. The ban extends to transit flights coming from Pakistan. Transit flights to Pakistan may continue.

UAE Nationals, holders of UAE Golden Visas and members of diplomatic missions who comply with updated COVID‑19 protocols will be exempt for travel.

Nigeria

According to the Emirate Airlines website, suspension of passenger flights is also currently in effect for Nigeria. The suspension has been in effect since March and passengers travelling to and from Lagos and Abuja will not be accepted for travel.

Passengers who have been to or connected through Nigeria in the last 14 days are not permitted to board from any other point to the UAE.

Sri Lanka

As per the UAE government's directive, all flights to and from Sri Lanka are suspended indefinitely until further notice. Furthermore, passengers who have travelled through Sri Lanka in the last 14 days will not be accepted to travel from any other point to the UAE.

UAE Nationals, holders of UAE Golden Visas and members of diplomatic missions who comply with updated COVID‑19 protocols will be exempt for travel.

The Philippines

Non-essential travel from the UAE to the Philippines remains banned until at least 15 June. The Philippines authorities also ban a number of other countries, including India, from entering their borders in a bid to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus variant discovered in India.

According to the Philippine Airlines website, travel from the Philippines to the UAE is still possible provided travellers are able to satisfy a number of testing requirements as well as some required forms.
