Motorsport UK is pleased to announce the six athletes selected to represent the UK in the upcoming 2019 FIA Motorsport Games, to be held at Italy's ACI Vallelunga Circuit 31 October - 03 November.
Lead by Team Captain and GT Cup driver Flick Haigh, Team UK will compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the GT Cup, Touring Car Cup, Karting Slalom and Digital Motorsports Categories, with every medal contributing towards an overall medal table.
The five athletes joining Flick are:
James Baldwin - Digital Cup
Rory Butcher - Touring Car Cup
Jessica Edgar - Karting Slalom
Chris Froggatt - GT Cup
Samuel Shaw - Karting Slalom
Representing the UK in the GT Cup are Chris Frogatt and Flick Haigh in a Spirit of Race run Ferrari 488 Challenge. Chris represented the UK in the 2018 FIA GT Nation's Cup, finishing second overall. He is back for 2019 and sharing his car with 2018 British GT Champion Flick. Flick sealed the 2018 British GT championship alongside Jonny Adam and has raced in the Le Mans Cup this year.
Chris said: 'I am very excited to represent the UK again In the FIA Motorsport games after narrowly missing out on victory last year. This year bring a new teammate Flick Haigh, who has already shown the motorsport world that she means business with her 2018 British GT title. She and I are both determined and ready to bring back the best result for the UK'
Multiple Kwikfit British Touring Car Championship race winner Rory Butcher will represent the UK in the Touring Car Cup. The Scotsman stepped into the BTCC in 2017 after competing in the European Le Mans Series (GTE), Blancpain (ProAm), and 24H Series.
Rory said: 'I'm absolutely delighted and very proud to have been selected to represent the UK at the FIA Motorsport Games. This is a very different and exciting opportunity for me, and I plan on flying the flag high for the UK. I'd like to say a massive thank you to MG and Motorsport UK for their support in this process.'
Fourteen-year-old Jessica Edgar and Samuel Shaw will team up to represent the UK in the Karting Slalom Challenge. Jessica drives for Fusion Motorsport in the British Kart Championship Mini X30 Class and currently sits fourth overall in the standings. At the end of last year she competed in the Junior category at the IAME World Finals. Samuel narrowly missed out on representing the UK in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy earlier this year and recently collected a second-place finish in the IAME Euro series in Germany.
Jessica said: 'I am really proud to have been selected to compete in the FIA Motorsport Games representing the UK. I am excited and looking forward to the challenge and will give it my all.'
Sam said: 'I'm over the moon at being selected to represent the UK in the motorsports games and am really excited for it. I'll be giving it my all to win a gold for the team'.
2019 eRace of Champions winner James Baldwin or 'VeloceJAAAMES' as he's known online will represent the UK in the Digital Motorsport category. 21-year-old James won the Renault Esports Series and has real-life experience on the track. He's a four-times karting champion and has also competed in Formula Ford.
James said: 'I am honoured to represent the UK in what is a pioneering step for Racing Esports. Now it's time to make the most of this amazing opportunity!'
