Italy’s Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio opens the annual meeting of the Council for the United States and Italy

Washington DC, October 17, 2019. The Embassy of Italy hosted the annual meeting of the Council for the United States and Italy, organized in collaboration with The European House-Ambrosetti, on the sidelines of the visit of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to the United States.

Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, and the Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs and Eurasia at the US Department of State, Philip Reeker, emphasized the fundamental importance of the transatlantic ties, and in particular of the friendship between Italy and the United States, based on shared values ​​and principles. A relationship that represents the essential key of the growth and progress of our countries and of our common security.

During the first session, the Director of the National Economic Council, Larry Kudlow, focused on the status of the American economy and called to strengthen the economic and commercial relations between Italy and the United States, a driving force for growth and prosperity .

The Council also included several panels with leading figures who touched upon topics of fundamental importance for transatlantic relations at a political and economic level, such as technological innovation and the role of the media.

The meeting, moderated by Gianni Riotta, was opened by the Ambassador of Italy to the US, Armando Varricchio, and the US Ambassador to Italy, Lewis Eisenberg, followed by introductory remarks by Domenico Siniscalco, President of the Council for the United States and Italy.
