The Government of Spain congratulates the President-elect of Honduras

Spain would also like to congratulate the Honduran people for the smooth running of these elections, held in difficult circumstances marked by the COVID-19 health crisis, as well as for the high turnout, which demonstrates the commitment of the Honduran people to democratic values in an electoral process supervised by the electoral observation missions of the European Union and the Organisation of American States, both supported by Spain.

The Spanish Executive is pleased that the various electoral reforms promoted over the last four years, which have been accompanied and supported by Spain, the European Union, the United Nations and the Organisation of American States, have contributed to strengthening the electoral system and the institutions, as attested to by the unfolding of this process.

The Government of Spain takes good note of the speech of reconciliation, peace and justice delivered on Sunday night by the President-elect and expresses its firm will to continue promoting the close bilateral relations and cooperation that unite our two countries, with the aim of promoting the well-being and prosperity of our peoples within the framework of the Ibero-American Community of Nations, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary.
