Yarmuth Announces 2021 Congressional Art Competition Winners

LOUISVILLE - Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) announced two Assumption High School students as winners of his 2021 Congressional Art Competition. Assumption senior Alyssa Neubacher has won the National Competition and junior Kaitly Roths has won the online Community Choice Competition. Yarmuth made the announcement during a surprise visit to the school on Tuesday.

Neubacher's artwork, entitled Apples, was chosen by a panel of judges from the local arts community. It will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building's 'Artistic Discovery' corridor in Washington, D.C. for one year.

Roths's artwork, entitled Seeing Double, was the top choice among online voters on Yarmuth's congressional website. It will be displayed in Yarmuth's Louisville office for one year.

'Our city has long been home to a thriving arts scene, and the creative and talented student work submitted in this competition is proof that we'll remain a center of the arts for a long time to come,' said Yarmuth. 'I congratulate Alyssa and Kaitly on winning this year's competition and look forward to seeing their artwork proudly displayed each day in Louisville and in Washington. Their work, and the pieces submitted by all participants in this year's competition, is even more impressive knowing how uniquely challenging this school year was for students.'

Since 1982, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have hosted the annual Congressional Art Competition, a contest that enables high school students from across the nation to demonstrate their artistic talents before a global audience. Yarmuth's 2021 competition drew in dozens of entries from local high school students. A gallery of this year's entries will be available on Yarmuth's website later this week.
