Defence Minister’s meeting with the French Minister of the Armed Forces

Minister of National Defence, Vasile Dîncu, had a meeting with the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, on Tuesday, 14 June, at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base.

The meeting agenda included topics referring to defence cooperation at bilateral level and within NATO and EU, with focus on the allied efforts made to consolidate the deterrence and defence posture on the Alliance Eastern flank, NATO New Strategic Concept and the important decisions that are to be adopted within the NATO Defence Ministerial or the Madrid NATO Summit.

Also, the Romanian defence minister reiterated his appreciation of France's support provided, as framework nation, throughout the establishment of the multinational battle group in Romania, by pointing out the importance of this step for the entire security of the Alliance.

With regard to the collaboration within the European Union, the officials saluted the positive results obtained by France while holding the European Union Council Presidency - which is about to end this month - with important landmarks for the consolidation process of the EU role.

The two officials also talked about the regional security situation, by stating their constant support to Ukraine.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed in the presence of Prime Minister Nicolae Ionel Ciuca, a Letter of Intention on the cooperation between the two defence ministries în the field of the Romanian Naval Forces' procurement of state-of-art naval equipment necessary for the accomplishment of the mission conducted at the Black Sea.
