Final Decision on New Library Site

To help narrow down exactly where to place this essential community facility inside the park, a team from Hacker Architects was enlisted to identify possible locations. In all, they identified five possible locations after an evaluation of the terrain, potential wetlands, suitable soils, ease of access, etc. the architectural team along with the Library Steering Committee, (a committee consisting of representatives from the Coos Bay Library Board, Library Foundation, Friends of the Library, City staff, and the City Council), the list of suitable locations was narrowed down to three sites.

Last week, two town hall style meetings were held to discuss the three locations. With the help of the community, the Library Steering Committee further narrowed the choices down, identifying the best location as the vicinity near the existing parking lot off Hull Street.

Now that the exact site has been identified, Hacker Architecture, will turn their attention to creating concept designs of the new building which will be shared with the community in March during additional town hall style meetings.
