Mayoral Proclamation - World Wish Day

When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, anxiety with hope and sadness with joy.

WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish was founded by family and friends of seven-year-old Chris Greicius, who got his wish to be a police officer on April 29, 1980; and

WHEREAS, The organization now known as Make-A-Wish has since granted more than 500,000 wishes worldwide, operating in every community in the United States and in nearly 50 countries worldwide; and

WHEREAS, Four Fargo-area residents brought the mission of creating life-changing wishes for children ages 2 1⁄2 to 18 years old with critical illnesses to North Dakota in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish North Dakota has granted more than 1,000 wishes in the State over the last 39 years, delivering hope and joy back into the lives of children with critical illnesses; and

WHEREAS, When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, anxiety with hope and sadness with joy; and

WHEREAS, Research has shown that wishes can improve a child's quality of life and produce better health outcomes; and

WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish depends on referrals, local volunteers and donors to realize its vision of reaching every eligible child to make their wishes come true.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Dr. Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, North Dakota do hereby proclaim April 29, 2024 as

WORLD WISH DAY

in the City of Fargo, North Dakota.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of The City of Fargo, North Dakota to be affixed this 29th day of April, 2024.
