Ms. Kierig advises corporations on these and other subjects, including pending and current federal and state legislation, proposed regulations, and congressional hearings. She advocates clients' positions on these matters in both chambers of Congress and before federal agencies. She has also testified before state legislative committees regarding privacy legislation.
Former Senator Mark L. Pryor, co-chair of Venable's Legislative and Government Affairs Practice, said, 'Anne's background in privacy and cybersecurity legislation both at the federal and state levels will be a tremendous asset to our current team and clients. As we continue to counsel and advise clients on current and upcoming legislation and regulations in this sector, we look forward to tapping into Anne's bench strengths.'
During her career, Ms. Kierig worked for U.S. Senators Richard J. Durbin, Assistant Democratic Leader, and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and former Ranking Member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. During her tenure with Senator Durbin, she drafted and advanced cybersecurity and privacy legislation; managed cybersecurity-related bills, hearings, and meetings; and engaged with the Department of Homeland Security, the National Cybersecurity Communications and Integration Center, and other federal agencies to determine how legislation can help the nation secure sensitive information while protecting individuals' privacy and civil liberties.
Thomas M. Boyd, co-chair of Venable's Legislative and Government Affairs Practice, said, 'Anne is an exceptional addition to our team, and she is joining one of the most highly regarded legislative practices in Washington, DC. Her colleagues include attorneys, policy advisors, and lobbyists who came to the firm from distinguished careers in federal and state government, holding key positions at various agencies and the White House. We cannot wait to integrate her into the mix.'
Commenting on her move to Venable, Ms. Kierig said, 'Venable has a collaborative and interactive culture that sets it apart from many of its contemporaries. I look forward to being a part of it.'
Ms. Kierig received her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law in 2005 and her B.A. in Communications from the University of California in 1995. She is licensed to practice in both the State of California and the District of Columbia.
