Spain expresses its concern over the attack on the headquarters of the party "Ciudadanos por la Innovación" in Malabo

The Government of Spain expresses its utmost concern over the siege and attack by State law enforcement agencies on the headquarters of the party "Ciudadanos por la Innovación" (CI) in Malabo.


The information received on the unusual violence between the opposition and law enforcement agencies shows a climate of tension that is incompatible with the dialogue needed during the current electoral period.

Spain calls for restraint and the opening-up of channels of dialogue between all the political forces and civil society that allow the elections to be held in an atmosphere of tolerance and openness​.

Spain calls on the authorities of Equatorial Guinea to act with prudence and responsibility at such a delicate time.

In this context, Spain declares the need to uphold legal certainty and the procedural guarantees of all those detained in custody.
