Sheriff’s Office Honors Members at Annual Ceremony

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the Washington County Sheriff's Office recognized the exceptional service and dedication demonstrated by several of its members at the department's annual "State of the Department" meeting held by Sheriff Murphy.

Investigator Mike Weber, was named Deputy of the Year for 2023. Weber's response to an accidental shooting in Argyle last September stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to public safety. Responding to the scene of an accidental gunshot wound, Weber administered life-saving care which was key to the stabilization of a critically injured 26-year-old male. His decisive actions allowed for the victim's quick transfer to a medical helicopter. In addition to this recognition, Weber was also awarded a life saving commendation for his efforts.

Deputies Matt Kraeger, Tim Gillis, and Joe DeAngelo earned meritorious conduct commendations for their exemplary performance during an active burglary in April of 2023. Responding swiftly to reports of a burglary in progress at a commercial building, the three demonstrated exceptional professionalism in searching for and arresting the suspect who was hiding in a nearby wooded area.

Deputies Joseph DeAngelo, Stephen Herrmann, Tim Gillis, and Joe Bethel, alongside Sergeants Tim Carroll and Chris Murray, were honored for their response to a dangerous situation in July of 2023. Confronted with a suicidal individual armed with a long gun at the Law Enforcement Center, the members utilized de-escalation techniques which ultimately led to a safe resolution for all involved.

Deputy Jeff Peterman received a commendation for his actions in ending a dangerous pursuit of a stolen vehicle with a report of the driver possibly being armed in November of 2023. After a chase that spanned three counties, the vehicle made its way to Washington County where Peterman deployed stop sticks that are designed to safely defeat the tires without the driver losing control. The vehicle stopped a short time later and the occupants were taken into custody without incident. Sgt. Robert Sullivan was also recognized for the same incident as he stopped traffic and cleared the intersection as the stop sticks were deployed.

Deputy Matt Kraeger received a meritorious conduct commendation for his actions in August of 2023 at the scene of a male subject reported to be in possession of a firearm and had just crashed a stolen vehicle. Kraeger located the suspect who was non-compliant and aggressive. Kraeger, with the assistance of an off duty police officer were able to get the suspect in custody after a struggle.

Multiple other members were awarded milestone pins as follows: Deputy Eric Wright - 5 years of service, Inv. Jen Noble and Sgt. Kyle Kolar for reaching 10 years of service and Sgt Robert Sullivan and Deputy John LaTour for reaching 20 years of service.

Two experienced deputies who recently transferred to the agency were recognized, Deputy Alida Durrant and K9 Delta and Deputy Tara Peck.

Three new Deputies, Daniel Newell, Jordan Huntington, and Colin Lourie were proudly welcomed who recently completed rigorous training at the police academy.
