Thirty-Year NUMC Veteran Dr. Grace Ting Recently Managed the Hospital's COVID Vaccine Program
EAST MEADOW, NY - - When she was eleven, Grace Ting traveled with her parents to Africa on a medical mission. Her father an orthopedic surgeon and her mother a nurse, she learned first-hand what it meant to provide medical care under challenging circumstances. Today, NUMC Chairman Matthew Bruderman and hospital CEO Dr. Anthony Boutin announced that Dr. Grace Ting will be the first woman to have the role of Chief Medical Officer of Nassau University Medical Center.
A 30-plus year NUMC veteran physician, Dr. Ting, currently the medical center's deputy CMO, first joined the staff in 1989. She will officially serve as interim CMO until approved by the NUMC board.
Dr. Ting served as Associate Director for Emergency Medicine for Operations and during the COVID-19 pandemic led NUMC's vaccine program hospital-wide, which administered more than 55,000 vaccinations.
"NHCC and NUMC have been a pillar for our local communities and the underserved population on Long Island since we began as Meadowbrook Hospital 87 years ago," stated Dr. Ting. "It is my pleasure and honor to work with Mr. Bruderman, Dr. Boutin, NHCC board, the executive team and staff here to realize my passion for quality healthcare for everyone," said Dr. Ting who has been a fixture in the hospital's emergency department during significant challenges of the last three decades including the Avianca plane crash, September 11th, Superstorm Sandy, and the COVID pandemic.
"Grace has earned the respect and admiration of our staff and patients over many years," stated Dr. Anthony Boutin, NUMC CEO who had been serving as CMO in addition to his management and clinical duties. "Having someone with her deep experience and understanding of the hospital's operations in this role will ensure every department can continually improve services. She has been a tremendous partner for me, and I congratulate her on assuming this new role," Dr. Boutin continued.
A Nassau County resident, Dr. Ting was born in Taiwan. After coming to the United States, her family settled in Cleveland, Ohio and later Rome, New York. Once fully approved, she will also be the first Asian-American to serve as hospital CMO.
"Dr. Grace Ting doesn't just understand hospital operations and how to ensure we provide the best patient service. She understands and cares about our communities. She was originally drawn to NUMC because of the communities we serve," said Matthew Bruderman, NUMC Chairman. "Grace is a dedicated physician with an outstanding record. I'm thrilled to make this interim appointment and know that her experience, energy and vision will be a benefit to every department as we all work to make NUMC the kind of first-class hospital the people of Nassau deserve," stated Bruderman.
Bruderman is driving a number of reforms at NUMC, including the filling of key executive roles that have gone unfilled over the last several years. A national search for a new Chief Financial Officer was recently announced.
Dr. Ting received both her bachelor's and medical degrees from SUNY Buffalo. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Manhattan before joining NUMC as an attending physician in emergency medicine.
She and her husband Stan just celebrated their thirty-sixth wedding anniversary. They have one son.
