New Ambassadors present Credentials

Her Excellency, Mrs. Karen Van Vlierberge, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Her Excellency, Mrs. Lironne Bar Sadeh, Ambassador of Israel, and his Excellency, Dr. Laurențiu-Mihai Ștefan, Ambassador of Romania, presented their Letters of Credence to President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin today.

H.E. Mrs. Karen Van Vlierberge, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Guy Droog.

H.E. Mrs Lironne Bar Sadeh, Ambassador of Israel, was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Ofer Bar Sadeh.

H.E. Dr. Laurențiu-Mihai Ștefan, Ambassador of Romania, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Georgeta Cristina Bratu.

Mr. Malcolm Noonan, T.D., Minister of State for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, with responsibility for Heritage and Electoral Reform, represented the Government at the ceremony.

The following were also present: Ms. Orla O'Hanrahan, Secretary General to the President; Mr. John Conlan, Deputy Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs; Col Stephen Howard, Aide-de-Camp to the President; and Mr. Gerald Angley, Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassadors were accompanied to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Brigade Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Colm Layton.

A Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by the 1st Mechanised Infantry Company, DFTC, Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare, under the command of Lieutenant Michael Hickey.

Captain John Carpenter conducted the Army No. 1 Band, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin.

2nd Lieutenant Sophie Donnelly, from the 1st Mechanised Infantry Company, DFTC, Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare, was the flag officer.
