Administrative management of Spur shifts to CSU campus

The CSU System Board of Governors has voted to transfer operational oversight of CSU Spur from the CSU System Office to the flagship campus in Fort Collins, with continued funding by the CSU System.

"Spur already relies a great deal on the infrastructure provided through CSU Fort Collins, so it makes sense to align the two more directly for efficiency's sake," said Chancellor Tony Frank, who recommended the change to the Board along with CSU President Amy Parsons. "The CSU System has the capacity to incubate big, new projects like Spur, but we don't have the infrastructure to manage an operation of this scope now that it's up and running. CSU in Fort Collins, with 8,300 employees and a strong administrative team, certainly has the infrastructure and visionary leadership to ensure that Spur continues to move on a path to achieve its full potential."

Spur was created as a way for CSU to have a stronger footprint in Denver, strategically positioned alongside long-term partners at the National Western Stock Show and City and County of Denver as they re-imagined what the NWSS complex would look like for the future. All three buildings of the Spur campus - Vida, Terra and Hydro - have been open for more than a year.

The administrative shift will have minimal impact on Spur's core mission and day-to-day operations. It also will not impact salaries and reporting lines for Spur staff. Associate Vice Chancellor Jocelyn Hittle, who oversees Spur, will now report to President Parsons as Associate Vice President for Spur.

"The work happening at Spur is simply extraordinary and groundbreaking for CSU, Denver and the state of Colorado," said President Amy Parsons, who helped design and build Spur during her previous leadership stint at CSU. "A majority of initiatives and projects at Spur are already driven by the Fort Collins campus, and this move creates opportunities for further integration with academic, research and service programs at CSU. Going forward, I believe Spur will continue to build on its solid foundation and grow to become an incredible higher education asset and extension of CSU serving Denver and beyond."

The Spur campus also will continue to be a doorway for CSU Pueblo and CSU Global, Frank said, and System funding for programs will still be available to those campuses.

"CSU Spur remains one of the most visible and innovative assets of the CSU System, and CSU System staff will continue to be partners in advancing its mission and reputation," Frank said. "This change honors both the incredible professional team at CSU Spur and the CSU faculty and staff who have been critical in the creation of Spur over the last 10 years."
