Achieving Women's Empowerment: The Importance of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

At Pro Mujer, we aim to promotecomprehensive sexual and reproductive health for women, a fundamental right that allows them to make informed decisions about their bodies and sexuality, live a life free from violence, and enjoy safe and consensual sexual relationships. The creation of spaces where accurate and timely information is provided, the sensitization of medical personnel to ensure quality care, and the prevention of and attention to violence, among others, are key initiatives to achieve the full exercise of this pillar.

With this goal in mind, in September 2023 we launched Sana y Segura, a project that promotes the sexual and reproductive rights of Mexican women, in partnership with MSD for Mothers. The initiativefeatures digital awareness toolsand provides training to health personnel and territorial advocacy organizations. In less than 7 months, the project has managed to reach more than 220women with health campaigns and over 1,680through the educational chatbot.

As part of Women's Month, various awareness and promotion campaignswere carried out focusing on the importance of incorporating the gender perspectiveamong health personnel to ensure the full exercise of sexual and reproductive health in the country. As part of the initiative, more than 50 teachers and eighth-semester students from the Bachelor's Degree program in Reproductive Health and Midwifery at the Technological University of Tulancingo received training; these future healthcare professionals acquired the tools and knowledge necessary to provide comprehensive care with a gender perspective.

Awareness campaigns were conducted on topics such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and family planningfor two local educational institutions. 160 members of the student body, faculty, and administrative staff of the Humanist Universitydiscussed the importance of reproductive rights and sexual health, and more than 250 students from the second to sixth semester of engineering, gastronomy, and architecture at the Huichapan Higher Technological Instituteattended awareness discussions.

In addition, Pro Mujer's financial services team in Mexico accessed relevant information on the topic and more than 80 advisorsreceived training.

Each of these actions is part of Sana y Segura's commitment to contribute to the well-being and health of women in Mexico. Throughout 2024, the project will continue to work to promote an environment where everyone can live a full and healthy life.
