Galveston City Council filing period open for May 7 election

Are you interested in serving your community? The filing period is open for the Galveston City Council elections.

The Saturday, May 7 election will determine who serves as the Galveston mayor and representative for six council districts. The filing period opened Wednesday, January 19, and will remain open until Friday, February 18 at 5 p.m.

Each council member elected to represent a district must have lived and had his or her principal physical residence in the district for at least one year immediately preceding the council member's election. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, per the City Charter. City Council positions are unpaid and require attendance to at least one meeting and workshop per month, with additional responsibilities. To determine which district you live in, please visit the district maps at https://gis-galveston.hub.arcgis.com/. To apply as a candidate, please visit the City Secretary's office on the second floor of City Hall, 823 25th Street.

Early voting for the May election will begin Monday, April 25.
