Today (March 30, 2021), the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ingrid Brocková, presented the priorities of economic diplomacy to the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic (SR) coordinates and also implements economic diplomacy by means of the embassies of the Slovak Republic abroad.
'Global trends such as digital transformation, climate change, migration, the aging of the population and the growth of social inequalities are significantly changing the nature of foreign policy and diplomacy in the promotion of the economy and economic interests. Our country is one of the most open economies in Europe. Not only our economic growth, competitiveness, but also jobs and the quality of the living standard in Slovakia depend on economic diplomacy.'
Through the Business Centre of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and economic diplomacy projects, in the past period more than a thousand promotional events were organized, participation in 700 fairs and exhibitions was supported, and more than 450 business missions were conducted.
'Few people realize that the activities of economic diplomacy bring real results every day to dozens of small and medium-sized Slovak companies, and also that when significant foreign investments in Slovakia are born, our economic diplomats are often present. In the times of crisis, they managed the provision of medical material and antigen tests, as well as the presentation of Slovak innovative solutions in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the world. To name a few examples, there are Q-Vent alternative lung ventilators that were sent to Brazil and Ukraine, MultiplexDX diagnostic tests that were sent to Ukraine and Kenya, and the first ever transfer of production technology from Chirana to the USA in cooperation with IPM, and to Uzbekistan,' the State Secretary emphasized.
The presentation of economic diplomacy and the subsequent discussion with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee was an opportunity for the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic to present priorities, innovative forms, as well as the cooperation of all the relevant actors in economic diplomacy. Ingrid Brocková provided information to the deputies of parliament about the prepared Policy Framework for External Economic Relations and Economic Diplomacy until 2025, which the Ministry is preparing in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. As she said: 'We will soon present a new offer to the private and public sectors in Slovakia. Our goal is higher efficiency, less bureaucracy and a synergy of the relevant actors. The area of support for innovation will have a prominent place in economic diplomacy - the internationalization of science and research and the support of the transfer of international technology,' the State Secretary announced. At the same time, she invited the National Council of the Slovak Republic to cooperation since the parliamentary dimension of economic diplomacy has its irreplaceable and complementary place in promoting the interests of Slovakia.
