In solidarity with and support with the community of Roatan, in the face of the devastating fire at the only public Hospital in Roatan, CABEI approves emergency aid for US$250,000

Tegucigalpa May 08, 2024.- After the devastating fire that razed the only public hospital in Roatán on April 19, which has left nearly 55,000 inhabitants in a vulnerable situation and without timely access to essential health services, the Government of the Republic of Honduras declared a state of emergency in the public health system in the Department of Bay Islands.

Given this unfortunate incident and in solidarity with the families affected in this area of the country, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved non-reimbursable financial cooperation under the modality of emergency and natural disaster aid of up to US$250,000 to support the work to reestablish medical care in Roatan. These funds will be used for the procurement of medicines, equipment, and infrastructure repair, among other urgent needs.

The Ministry of Health will be the body in charge of executing this Cooperation, and once the planned actions are completed, it must present a detailed report on the use of resources through this aid.

CABEI reaffirms its commitment to solidarity with Honduras and its willingness to support the actions undertaken by local and national authorities to confront this emergency and guarantee the well-being of the affected community.
