The Port of San Diego Celebrates the 55th Annual Professional Municipal Clerks Week

The Port of San Diego is proud to celebrate the hard work and professionalism of its staff in the Office of the District Clerk during the 55th Annual Professional Municipal Clerks Week. Municipal Clerks throughout the United States, Canada, and 15 other countries take part in the annual event, which is celebrated during the first full week of May. This year, Municipal Clerks Week takes place May 5 through May 11, 2024.

The Port's Office of the District Clerk is responsible for ensuring the public has access to all information they have a legal right to in California. They respond to public inquiries such as public record requests, prepare agendas for Board of Port Commissioners meetings, record and index minutes, and maintain the Board's ordinance and resolution files as well as all official records.

"Our Office of the District Clerk staff are the unsung heroes of the Port of San Diego," said Chairman Frank Urtasun, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. "Their tireless efforts keeping the public informed allow us to remain a transparent agency that in turn helps us build and maintain the public's trust."

In celebration of Municipal Clerks Week, the Port of San Diego will be hosting a variety of fun and informational sessions for employees to increase awareness about the role of professional clerks. This will include a public records lunch and learn, public records themed trivia and game day, as well as informational displays of historic Port materials.

Professional Municipal Clerks Week has been celebrated since 1969, but a proclamation was signed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 declaring the first full week of May, Municipal Clerks Week. President Clinton signed a proclamation in 1994 confirming Municipal Clerks Week.
