Code Brown supports Victoria's health system

To support our healthcare system during the latest wave of COVID-19, the Victorian Government has declared a coordinated "Pandemic Code Brown".

We want to reassure our patients, and their carers and families, that this change will help health services to make decisions and act together for the benefit of Victorians at this time.

Patients should continue to access their care and attend appointments as per normal - noting telehealth appointments continue to be encouraged, unless your clinician advises there is a particular reason your appointment should be in person.

The Code Brown order takes effect from midday 19 January 2022, and covers all public health services in metropolitan Melbourne and major facilities in regional Victoria.

It is anticipated this will be in place for four to six weeks. Please continue to check our website for more information.

The Code Brown puts in place a formal emergency management structure that will support best use of resources as COVID-19-related demands on Victoria's hospitals is anticipated to peak over the next few days and weeks.

It recognises the challenges that healthcare services are experiencing at this time - including staff availability because of COVID-19 furloughs, a rising number of coronavirus patients requiring acute care and the everyday needs of the Victorian community to access hospital and emergency care.

At Peter Mac, we are well-prepared and our COVID-19 Response Team meets regularly to ensure that we plan ahead make changes quickly in response to the pandemic.
We will continue to keep you informed.
